Attorney General Jeremy Wright, along with Prospective MP Maggie Throup paid a visit to Saint John Houghton Voluntary Catholic Academy, meeting students, teachers and Governors.
As well as a tour of the school, Mr Wright and Maggie Throup took part in a question and answer session with the students and listened to presentations from the school’s Justice and Peace Group, Fair Trade Society, Oasis Team and School Prefects.
Maggie Throup said: “It was really good to be able to meet everyone at Saint John Houghton and to learn about some of the societies and groups the students are involved with. The students’ commitment to supporting the local and global community through their understanding of the issues as well as in practical ways was great to see.
“Their enthusiasm was infectious which helps to create a great learning environment during their time at the school.”
The Attorney General, Jeremy Wright said: “It was a pleasure to be introduced by Maggie to the students and staff of Saint John Houghton. I was hugely impressed by the engagement of the young people I met with their local community and the wider world around them and their passion for justice in its widest sense.”
