Maggie Throup, Prospective Conservative MP for Erewash and Secretary of State for Justice Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling MP visited the Island Project Farming and Education Project in Risley to meet staff and students.
The Island project offers a unique alternative farm-based educational service for children and young people who, because of their varying complex needs, cannot attend full time, mainstream school or are at risk at age 16+ of being classified as ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’.
After the visit, Maggie Throup said: “This was my second visit to the project and I was delighted that the Justice Secretary could see the amazing work being carried out and the fantastic results the students are achieving.
“The Island Project really does give these young people hope and a opportunity of a successful future.”
Chris Grayling added: “I was really impressed to see a group of young people overcoming big challenges in their lives. The farm environment is a really good way of getting them to develop new skills and build their confidence.”
