Conservative County Councillors Garry Hickton and Alan Griffiths were very concerned when they were informed by local residents that Main Street in Long Eaton was going to be completely closed for four weeks . Garry and Alan investigated the diversion sign and vehicles were going to be diverted along Station road and on to New New Tyth Street . This included a very sharp right hand turn for HGVs. Cllr Hickton immediately contacted the Highways dept and, after explaining the impact on the area, Derbyshire County Council agreed and cancelled the work that was to be done at the weekend, Cllr Hickton said that “looking at the potential chaos this may have caused in Long Eaton I was very pleased to have managed to get the work stopped. I have asked Derbyshire County Council to come up with a better solution before work commences."
