We are very pleased to announce that thanks to our Conservative lead County Council and our own MP Maggie Throup, Hazelwood Care Home in Cotmanhay will remain open until a brand new facility is built in the community to replace it!
Cllr Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, added: “I cannot forgive Labour Councillors for failing to carry out the necessary repairs to the home while they were in power. Had they done their job when they were in power, we would not have been facing such a difficult decision brought about by huge repair costs.
Maggie Throup added: “Since coming to power in May, the new Conservative Administration has had to consider some tough choices to ensure that Hazelwood remains safe and warm for the residents who live there.
“This was a situation caused by a shameful lack of investment over many years by the previous Labour Council, and goes to the heart of a wider problem of their total mismanagement of adult social care across Derbyshire whilst in office."
We felt it vital that residents are kept in the loop about what we are doing locally and have decided to produce these regular email updates as a way of getting the latest council news and developments to people in Ilkeston.
