Conservative candidate Daniel Walton claimed victory in the Sawley division of Derbyshire County Council in the 2013 County Council Elections. Daniel is also a sitting Borough Councillor in the Sawley area of Erewash and won the election with a majority of around 200 votes. Daniel’s victory means that the Conservative Party take the seat away from the Labour Party who won the by-election in 2011 arising from a casual vacancy following the death of Bill Camm.
Elsewhere across the borough of Erewash the Conservative Party held on to the Breadsall and West Hallam seat with a majority of around 800 votes; the Sandiacre seat with a majority of around 600 and the Breaston seat with a majority of around 500.
The Conservative Party overall across the Borough of Erewash polled 35.9% against the Labour Party who polled 34.6%, whilst the Conservative vote across Derbyshire was just 28.8%, the Labour party polled 42% across Derbyshire with UKIP trailing at 18.7%.
