Ilkeston’s Victoria Park has scored a hat trick . . . winning the prestigious Green Flag award for the third year running.
Erewash Borough Council announced the celebration news today (Monday 29th), with the top honour again confirming that Victoria Park is one of the best in the country.
The national award, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the area boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, has welcomed the award:
“What a hat trick! We are thrilled to have retained this top honour – and we know our delight and pride is shared by local residents and all those who enjoy this lovely park. Congratulations to all those involved for their hard work in ensuring Victoria Park is properly maintained, protected and developed so that it can be enjoyed by all for generations to come. Victoria Park is a great place to relax, take a stroll and also enjoy entertainment that is provided during the year.”
The council plan to mark the ‘triple’ honour with a celebration flag-raising ceremony shortly. Victoria Park is among a record-breaking 1,447 parks and green spaces that have this week received a prestigious Green Flag Award.
Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd says:
“A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the hard work and dedication of all the parks managers, staff and volunteers who have helped to create these fantastic places for all to enjoy. Quality green spaces are absolutely essential to happy, healthy communities. They are fundamental to our quality of life, whether in cities, towns or villages. That is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before.”
