Statement from Erewash Conservatives regarding bullying and anti-Semitism in the Labour Party:
You read in the news about Labour MP’s like Chris Williamson and Councillors being suspended over bullying and anti-Semitism and about good Labour councillors and members leaving the party recently.
You may wonder how widespread bullying and anti-Semitism has become in the Labour Party and if it’s happening here in Erewash. Sadly the local and national Labour Party still fail to do anything about Sawley Parish Councillor Alan Chewings’ social media activities promoting “bizarre Jewish conspiracy theories” as featured in a Derby Telegraph article this April.

Now we have Danny Treacy who has resigned from the Labour group on Erewash Borough Council citing bullying as a reason.

Cllr Carol Hart, Leader of the Council commented:
“Although we have always had different political views to members of the Labour group on Erewash Borough Council, we always considered them to be good people who, in their own way, wanted what was best for the communities they represent. And as a result, we could work well with them.
But I am sorry to say, since Jeremy Corbyn became Leader of the Labour Party, there has been a very noticeable change. It is clear that a significant part of the Labour Party locally has become nasty and intent on driving out good hard-working councillors like Danny Treacy.”
