Mr Duncan Smith learned how the Church is working to tackle deprivation in the surrounding area by trying to helping residents get off benefits and get back into employment. He was also informed about the “We Want to Work” campaign which is being run by the Derby Telegraph.
During his time at the church Mr Duncan Smith was told how residents attended the venue for social activities and for help to turn their lives around including the Church’s food bank scheme which has been in operation for around two years.
The food bank scheme is run by the church and provides parcels of food and other household essentials that are vital in day to day life. The scheme is there to help to get families back on their feet but not to make them dependant on support.
Mr Duncan Smith joined Jessica Lee MP in praising the work of the church and the determination to help families to get back on their feet.
