Conservative led Erewash Borough Council’s campaign to increase recycling rates in Cotmanhay continues with a ‘Recycling Week’ starting Monday 30 September.
Children from Cotmanhay Junior School are taking part in the ‘Recycling Week’ when they will learn about the importance of the need to recycle more through themed workshops and will help to name the new Cotmanhay recycling site with imaginative poster designs.
The new recycling site will be in the car park on Beauvale Drive opposite Cotmanhay Junior School, and will be in place on Wednesday 2 October. One of Erewash Borough Council’s recycling collection vehicles together with Derbyshire County Council’s Waste Exhibition vehicle will be at the site with recycling demonstrations to show pupils and residents what items of waste they can place in their blue bins/green bags and where to dispose of other recyclable materials.
As part of the Recycling Week, visitors to the site can watch short cooking demonstrations at the ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ event from 12.30pm where they will be shown how to use their left over food imaginatively including making quick pizzas.
A new clothing bank is also being introduced at the site in aid of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and the air ambulance may also visit the site on Wednesday 2 October as part of the ‘Recycling Week’ in Cotmanhay.
Conservative Councillor Barbara Harrison, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, said:
“The events taking place throughout Recycling Week will be a great opportunity for Cotmanhay residents to learn more about what they can recycle and how to make use of left over food instead of throwing it way.
“It is good to know how to make best use of things we buy and reduce the amount that ends up in the bin. We must all try to look after our environment by recycling more and sending less waste to expensive landfill sites, which will reduce overall costs to the residents and the council.”
Cotmanhay residents have recently received a leaflet through their door inviting them to enter a prize draw to win one of 100 free blue recycling bins. Residents are reminded that they have until midday on Thursday 10 October to return their completed entries.
The ‘Recycling Week’ is a joint venture between Erewash Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council.
