The project will convert two surplus squash courts into four large classrooms via the installation of mezzanine floors – two on the ground floor and two above. Windows would need to be installed together with new lighting, heating, networking etc.
The second part of the project would convert the function room and bar area into a conference facility by stripping out the bar area together with relighting and minor remodelling.
The additional classroom accommodation in the Sports Centre would allow some general classrooms in the main school building to be converted into a Science laboratory and a Technology area. This part of the project would be managed and funded separately by the School at a cost of approximately £80,000.
Cllr Wayne Major, County Councillor – Sandiacre Division, said:
“The conversion of two surplus squash courts at Friesland will provide extra classroom space to allow for much needed redevelopment elsewhere in the school, which will benefit future generations in Sandiacre.”
