DCC Councillors working together to assist Riverside Football Club
Derbyshire County Councillor for Sawley Cllr Kewal Singh Athwal has joined with Cllr Alan Griffiths and Cllr Garry Hickton to assist Riverside FC in funding the refurbishment of their clubhouse. Major internal refurbishment is being carried out this year by club member volunteers and trades people to improve the facilities available both to players and visitors alike. Councillors Athwal, Griffiths and Hickton have jointly contributed £3000 from the DCC Members Leadership Scheme to assist the improvement works.
Riverside FC started in 1983 to encourage and teach local youngsters to play football. Now 35 years later the club has steadily increased the number of football teams to include both male and female players to enjoy competitive football and stay active.
Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal said:
"Cllr Alan Griffiths, Cllr Garry Hickton and myself are pleased that we have been able to work together to facilitate this refurbishment so that our young football players and visitors to Riverside FC can enjoy the improved clubhouse for many more years ".
