Erewash Conservative Association have today announced the Candidates List for the forthcoming Derbyshire County Council Elections which are due to take place on Thursday 2nd May 2013.
The Candidates have been announced as follows:
Robert Parkinson – Breaston
Robert was initially elected on to the council in 1967 where, he is a member of the Regulatory Planning Committee and represents the council on the Derbyshire Combined Fire Authority. He is Chairman of the Council’s regulatory licensing and appeals committee.
He has been an Erewash Councillor for Breaston since 1973 and a Breaston Parish Councillor since 1965. His priority is to work for the three parishes of Borrowash, Breaston and Draycott within the Division.
Carol Hart – West Hallam and Breadsall
Carol was first elected on to the county council to represent this ward in April 2004 during which time she have been a member of its Improvement and Scrutiny Committee for Resources and also a member of the council's Standards Committee.
Carol is also an elected member for the West Hallam and Dale Abbey Ward on Erewash Borough Council, where she is currently Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Community Services.
Chairman of West Hallam Parish Council and treasurer of the Magic Laser Cancer appeal, which purchases cancer related equipment.
Wayne Major – Sandiacre
Wayne Major is 30 years old and has a young daughter. Like all parents he wants what's best for his children, with good local schools and good opportunities for them when they grow up.
Wayne lives on Recreation Road in Sandiacre. He believes it’s very important for your elected candidate to live in the area which he represents as this gives him a better understanding of local issues.
Wayne has represented the Sandiacre Division as a County Councillor since 2009 and Sandiacre North as a Parish Councillor since 2011.
Garry Hickton – Petersham
Garry is a working family married man and has lived locally in Erewash all of his life and has represented the Petersham division as aCountyCouncillorsince 2009. He has represented the Derby Road West Ward as a Borough Councillor since 2006.
As a governor of a local school education of our young people is a priority. Garry has prioritised ensuring a fair deal when it comes to Highways maintenance in the Petersham area.
Val Custance – Ilkeston West
Val is a retired civil servant of 43 years and lives locally in Abbotsford which she has represented as a Borough Councillor since May 2011. As a governor of the Ormiston Enterprise Academy, education is a priority. Val pledges to closely monitor the progress of the planned merger of the two schools.
Val has prioritised ensuring a fair deal when it comes to Highways maintenance and she is a keen advocate for the proposed Ilkeston Railway Station.
Kevin Miller – Ilkeston East
Kevin is a former Mayor of Erewash and has been a Borough Councillor for many years. He is married with grown up family, his wife Jill formerly worked in the Ilkeston Coop. Actively involved with sea scouts and his local uniformed cadets.
Kevin supports the improvements to the local play areas and supports the efforts of Jessica Lee MP to secure the future of Bennerley School. Kevin is a keen advocate for the proposed Ilkeston Railway Station.
Kewal Athwal – Long Eaton
Kewal Athwal is married with two grown up children, who were both educated in local schools in Long Eaton. An Erewash Borough Councillor, along with his family has lived in Long Eaton since 1973 where his business is located.
Kewal feels that Derbyshire County council needs to work closely with the Long Eaton residents, listening to their aspirations, to create a better Long Eaton, where people can truly feel proud to live, work & enjoy the local amenities available.
Daniel Walton – Sawley
Daniel lives in Sawley with his young family and works locally as a hotel manager. He is a borough and parish Councillor for Sawley is a governor of both Sawley Infant and Nursery school and Sawley Junior school and has a keen interest in education particularly that of special educational needs.
Daniel’s priorities for Sawley and Wilsthorpe are that our children are educated to a good standard, that we live in a clean and safe environment and that we get a fair deal for the council taxes that we pay.
Richard Harris – Ilkeston South
Richard is 25 years old, has lived in Erewash all of his life and was educated locally.
Richard’s priorities for Ilkeston South include: ensuring a fair deal when it comes to Highways maintenance; maintaining a high standard of education in the area and working with the police to lower crime in the area.
Locally Richard has also prioritised making sure the residents of Ilkeston South know all the facts about the long awaited Stanton regeneration project.
