Environment Secretary Liz Truss joined Erewash Conservative Prospective MP, Maggie Throup, to meet members of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society who have been bidding for funds to restore part of the canal and the link with the Erewash Canal in Sandiacre.
Maggie Throup said: "I was pleased to be able to meet with the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust along with Environment Secretary Liz Truss and hear more about the Trust's plans to open up this canal.
"As we walked along the Sandiacre stretch from the link with the Erewash Canal, it was fascinating to see how the route of the canal has been kept in tack and just how beneficial restoring this canal would be to recreational activities in the area.
"I'm delighted that the Trust now has permission for the restoration and I will be doing whatever I can to ensure it gets the funding it so desperately needs."
