Conservative leader of the Borough Council Chris Corbett was delighted to announce that the Borough Council Tax bills would be unchanged for a fourth consecutive year.
He said “Life is difficult for everyone as a result of the financial mismanagement and over-spending of the last Labour Government, but thanks to careful planning and finding better ways of working without reducing front-line services, we have kept our share of the Council Tax frozen yet again.
As Conservatives we realise that the money spent by the Council is directly or indirectly our residents’ money and we treat it as if it were our own. The Borough Council is great at finding outside sources for grants and that is why we have been able to make so many improvements to our towns and villages”.
Conservative Council Leader Chris Corbett said “The Council’s theme for the coming year will be Regeneration and a quarter of a million pounds is being spent on doing up our town centres and attracting new shops and businesses into Erewash. Many of us use the Internet because it is so convenient, but if we don’t use our local High Street shops we shall lose even more of them. Long Eaton has fewer empty shops than many towns but we shall be redoubling our efforts to keep the ones we have and attract new ones.”
